Radius: Working in partnership

Radius Housing is providing greater assistance in the fight against homelessness through strengthening relationships with partner charities, serving the most vulnerable people in Northern Ireland.

Partnership working is a key element of Radius Housing’s ethos. Among our 18 partnerships organisations are five health and social care trusts. These partnerships range from the provision of supported living for young people to residential care for older people and dementia care.

In total, Radius Housing has 819 properties which are operated in partnership with a host of organisations including MACS NI, Cithrah, First Housing, Extern, Livability, Positive Futures and Praxis. All of these partnerships are undertaken to support our partners in providing housing and support services across Northern Ireland.

It is very clear that the number of homeless people continues to rise. But to fully comprehend the nature of homelessness, the physical coldness and emotional rawness must be experienced.

The Big Sleep Out is an event organised by MACS NI in support of the End Youth Homelessness movement, which does just that.

This year it saw 106 people sleep rough for one night to raise vital funds for the fight against homelessness. Members of the Radius Housing team participated in The Big Sleep Out, raising £2,000 to support the work of the charity. Everyone who took part found the event to be humbling, and it is initiatives like this that serve as a wakeup call and a catalyst for significant change.

At Radius Housing’s recent Board Away Day, Jim Dennison CEO of Simon Community NI, spoke of the reality of homelessness across Northern Ireland and articulated how we, as a housing association, can provide greater assistance in the fight against homelessness.

As a result of these experiences and increased understanding, Radius’ Care and Support Services is currently drafting plans which focus on strengthening our relationships with our partner charities, particularly those that serve the most vulnerable people in communities across Northern Ireland.
