DUP

Lagan Valley

Main political interests: Local government, justice

Favourite book: God’s written word, the Bible

Favourite film: At the moment with my three-year-old daughter the only films I get too watch are Toy Story, the Chipmunks and other kids films. Top Gun though has to be a classic.

Jobs before politics: Research assistant, special advisor, FSB public affairs manager

What motivates you?

The drive to make a difference is what motivates me. Whether it is on the big political issues or for the single issue constituents come to you for help with, I believe you should put your full energy into whatever it is you are doing.

Who do you most admire?

Those people that give freely of their time to help others. I have came across so many people of all walks in life including retired business people that assist new businesses starting up, volunteers in charities and sporting organisations and especially those that care for those with disabilities.

What quality do you like in others?

People that are straight talking whether you agree with them or not.

122-123c Sydney Anderson

DUP

Upper Bann

Main political interests: Peace, economy

Favourite book: Persian Fire by Tom Holland

Favourite films: Lawrence of Arabia, Braveheart,

The Quiet Man

Jobs before politics: R&D aerospace engineer, civil servant, businessman

What motivates you?

I came into politics to help people. I like to keep busy, remain focussed and hopefully reach a successful conclusion on their behalf. This is not always possible but it is something I always try to aim for.

As a unionist it is essential to believe in what I am doing, and doing my bit to help build a better future for Northern Ireland is very important to me.

What one thing would you improve about yourself?

I would be a bit more patient. I have a tendency to always want everything done yesterday.

How do you like to relax?

I enjoy sports and played both football and rugby when I was younger. I still enjoy both sports but do so now from the comfort of being a spectator. As much as possible I try to take time to support my local football team Portadown FC. I also enjoy walking in the countryside which I find is most relaxing.

When are you happiest?

I am happiest when those closest to me are happy, especially my wife and family. When they are happy, I am happy. What more can you ask for?

Chris Lyttle

Alliance

East Belfast

Main political interests: Education, jobs, environment

Favourite book: Beloved by Toni Morrison

Favourite film: The Power of One

Jobs before politics: Local food store, public policy analyst, constituency worker

What motivates you?

I am passionate about community. I was born and raised in East Belfast, a constituency with a world-class industrial and cultural heritage. I believe in using my talent and skills to contribute to making my community a better place in which to live.

What’s your top priority?

To serve the people of East Belfast. Politicians have a responsibility to help their constituents by ensuring positive and tangible change in their community. As an MLA, making politics work for local people will be my main aim.

When are you happiest?

When I have put in a hard day working for my constituents and am still able to make it home to spend time with my family.

What’s your ambition?

I am proud to be part of a growing Alliance Party with a strong record of service and pioneering leadership. My predecessor and colleague, Naomi Long, demonstrated this during her time as Lord Mayor of Belfast, as an excellent MLA, and will be a formidable representative for the interests of this region at Westminster. It is my aim to honour this record and ensure this community has new political leadership of which it can be proud.
