PlayBoard: driving the play agenda

Jackie PlayBoard is an independent charity which promotes best practice in play and playwork. The organisation provides advice, guidance and training to support all those who have an interest in, or whom have a responsibility for play so that we can foster a society where the right to play is realised.

Our mission is to drive the play agenda, therefore at every level of decision-making and in every place where children might play, the organisation works to raise awareness of children and young people’s need and right to play. We believe our advocacy work has, to some extent, had the desired effect. We welcome the Executive’s recent bold step to invest £1.6 million in a play and leisure signature project. Not only does this address states parties’ obligations, it further demonstrates a commitment and understanding of the value of play as an integral and evolving aspect of childhood. We look forward to sharing our expertise of play and playwork with departmental colleagues to ensure optimum impact for this investment.

The play and leisure signature project came hot on the heels of the launch of ‘Bright Start’ – the Executive’s Programme for Affordable and Integrated Childcare. With the Executive having supported, developed and campaigned for school age childcare services and the professional status of playwork, we are really looking forward to playing a role in assisting the roll-out and delivery of Bright Start’s first key actions, in particular the development of up to 7,000 new play-based school age childcare places.
