IN PROFILE: Assembly and Executive Review Committee

The Assembly and Executive Review Committee is a standing committee established under the Northern Ireland (St Andrews Agreement) Act 2006. It reviews matters relating to the function of the Assembly and the Executive.

The 2006 Act amended the Northern Ireland Act 1998 to establish the Executive Office and set up the committee. It is required to review and report on the operation of Executive authorities and Assembly elections and proceedings. The committee comprised nine members, including a Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson, prior to the resignation of the DUP’s Gary Middleton from the Assembly. The DUP may table a motion seeking to appoint a replacement member. No such motion has been tabled at the time of writing.
