Growing local democracy & economies: Northern Ireland’s councils, beyond 100 days
NILGA Office Bearers and Executive Members – Ald Alan McDowell, Cllr Seán McPeake, Ald Carla Lockhart, Cllr Dermot Curran and Ald Jim Dillon with Junior Ministers, Jennifer McCann MLA and Michelle McIlveen MLA.
Around 180 delegates including elected members, chief executives and senior officers from all 11 councils, attended the Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA) Annual Conference, in La Mon Hotel in June. Supported by Ulster University, the conference 2015 focused on ‘Growing Local Democracy & Economies: Northern Ireland’s Councils, Beyond 100 Days’. Delegates shared in a full day of discussion, resolutions and outcomes designed to improve the governance and economy of Northern Ireland, through our new councils. The Conference determined through NILGA and the 11 councils, a new Programme for Local Government which would see councils as a formal partner in delivering transformed public services.
