SONI appoints new Manager of Grid Development and Interconnection

SONI, the company responsible for operating Northern Ireland’s electricity transmission network has appointed Alan Campbell as Manager of Grid Development and Interconnection.

He will lead the team responsible for managing planning applications and delivering consents for grid transmission and interconnection projects, including the proposed 400kV North South Interconnector.

Campbell joins SONI with over 15 years’ experience in the electricity industry. Having graduated from Queen’s University Belfast with a First Class Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering, Alan began his career in England before joining ESB International. He went on to hold a number of senior positions in ESB, and most recently was responsible for managing its 400MW Coolkeeragh Power Station in the North West.

Commenting on his appointment, Alan Campbell said: “I’m delighted to have joined SONI at such an important time for Northern Ireland’s electricity industry. I will be working closely with SONI’s team of engineers to advance vital projects such as the North South Interconnector, which is urgently required to help achieve more competitive prices and security of supply in Northern Ireland.

“I look forward to engaging with a broad range of stakeholders to help deliver modern infrastructure that will support Northern Ireland’s growing economy.”
