Managing Information Seminar

The Northern Ireland ICT Innovation Forum is a network of organisations that are involved in using ICT to deliver public services. The Forum’s primary aim is to act as a network facilitator and, by developing a high level and forward thinking seminar programme, bring a focus to best practice within the sector.

The fourth seminar in the 2010/2011 programme will examine all the issues around information security and data protection. Data loss is one of the major reputational risks for all organisations. It is particularly crucial for government and the public sector which is tasked with holding and processing large amounts of sensitive information. With the move towards cloud computing the amount of data is fast accelerating and sharing of information is now a business critical issue. This seminar will look at the emerging issues in managing information in this fast changing environment.

Key themes under discussion in the seminar include:

• The best practice approach to information security – how safe is your data?
• Managing information risk in the public sector – balancing data sharing and data protection;
• Developing effective information security policies;
• Complying with data protection regulations – understanding the boundaries and implications;
• Developments in cyber security.

An expert speaker panel has been assembled to explore all these key issues and deliver the latest thinking on compliance, security and technology. It also aims to offer practical data protection guidance and advice on areas which may affect all organisations – making processes more robust and efficient.

Networking

The seminar is structured in a way to provide a high level of interaction between speakers and delegates. There will be plentiful opportunities for questions as well as discussion in each of the sessions. In the breaks and margins of the event there will also be scope for networking and business development.
